16 August 2019 (Miami, Florida) – Brett Burney often says his focus is “bridging the chasm between the legal and technology frontiers of electronic discovery”. He excels at that, effectively guiding law firms and corporations through the arduous task of managing eDiscovery projects, as well as all aspects of data recovery and investigations, at the helm of the eponymous …
Earlier this year we had the opportunity for a 45 minute chat with Brett at Legaltech to talk about that work, plus his efforts to assist clients on what he calls “the proactive side” – assisting his clients to better prepare their data management and information governance programs before the going gets tough. And we should note, Brett is also a highly sought-after trainer and presenter for lawyers who seek to integrate Macs and iPads into their practice.
He also talks about the need to understand tools beyond document review (which seem so dominant at legal technology trade shows these days): tools for case analysis, tools for collecting mobile device information, tools for collecting web content, etc., etc.
Which takes us to one of his shining accomplishments: the development of the “eDiscovery Buyers Guide”, the goal of which is to de-mystify the eDiscovery product landscape for solo, small and midsized law firms. Brett “lives and breathes this stuff everyday” so who better to put together such a guide. As Brett notes “there hasn’t been enough education around what tools would be a good fit for their budget or caseload so I am trying to fill in that gap”.
And it is more than a guide. It is a resource with articles from some of the leading lights in the ediscovery world. Plus, Brett organises webinars around the guide. Brett gives us a short review of the guide toward the end of this interview but for more information click here: www.ediscoverybuyersguide.com
As far as editing this video, talking with Brett is like talking to Craig Ball … how do you edit 45 minutes when every minute is illuminating? So we did our best. You’ll come away knowing the role and value of an independent eDiscovery consultant like Brett:
